Surf Check, Newcastle

Overview

CRC completed the structural and civil works for this Newcastle project including driveway and park level reworks, and composite framed structure.

The design is an open-plan layout connecting the indoor and outdoor areas using Australian hardwood timber and incorporating Japanese-inspired detailing. The primary goal was to design a structure that could adapt to the varying coastal weather patterns while still feeling calm and thoughtful.

This project has won the following awards:

  • Winner: Master Builders Association 2024 Newcastle Excellence in Building Awards, Best Use of Timber (Maple Design & Construction Pty Ltd.)
  • Winner: 2026 NSW Regional Architecture Awards, Timber Award (Incidental Architecture)
  • Award: 2026 NSW Regional Architecture Awards, Residential Architecture – Houses (New) (Incidental Architecture)
  • Award: 2026 NSW Regional Architecture Awards, Sustanable Architecture (Incidential Architecture)
