AXIS, Alexandria

Overview

Axis Alexandria is Goodman’s flagship industrial facility, designed to reimagine the modern warehouse for next-generation businesses. This development merges advanced design with high-performance capabilities.

As Australia’s first multi-level industrial facility with a typical industrial structural load capacity, the facility features nine units over two levels, ranging from 1,000 to 7,000 sqm. It provides seamless traffic circulation for vehicles up to 19 meters long, good sightlines, flexible warehouse spaces, and contemporary office pods. This site is one of the first carbon-neutral industrial developments in Australia, emphasising construction with a conscience.

With a focus on sustainability, the facility includes 400kW of rooftop solar panels to reduce running costs, insulated and reflective rooftop canopies for cooler environments, and smart irrigation using harvested rainwater for bathrooms and landscaping. CRC worked on the structural design for this project, identifying recycled steel as a key material for construction early on in the design phase. Throughout the project, more than 1,500 tonnes of recycled steel were used for the structure.

The construction of Axis Alexandria posed unique challenges due to the constrained site, with a six-meter proximity limit from the building to the site perimeter. The CRC project team adopted an inside-out construction methodology, adopting a strategy to lift materials over the steel structure into position.

This project has won the following awards:

  • Winner: Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction 2024, Industrial Buildings $25 Million – $50 Million (BESIX Watpac)
